Susan and I recently tried kayaking.  We first went to Cap'n John's Marina in Fawnskin (Big Bear Lake).  It was over-cast and very hot.  It ended up raining on us, which was OK.  We had a blast.  
Since then, we've gone up to Big Bear many times to kayak; usually renting them from Pleasure Point Marina.  We love it. 
As you can see from the background picture here, what's not to enjoy?
We've discovered that wind and boats going by high-speed make for big waves and choppy water - much more fun. 
We're soon going to try our hands at ocean kayaking around Santa Cruz Island - one of the Channel Islands.  Keep checking for updated pictures.
